  Musselman's Lake Stewardship Plan

Musselman's Lake Stewardship Plan
The Town, in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has initiated a study to develop a State of Musselman’s Lake Sub-Watershed Report in consultation with government agencies, landowners, non-governmental environmental groups, resident associations and members of the public to encourage a community-based planning approach to Musselman’s Lake.

The State of Musselman’s Lake Sub-Watershed Report (SMLR) will identify the present condition of Musselman’s Lake and its surrounding drainage along with the land-use, water, recreation and resource management issues that need to be addressed. The Stewardship Plan will provide an action plan for improving the quality of Musselman’s Lake, based on the findings from the State of Musselman’s Lake Sub-Watershed Report.  The Plan will also identify the tools and resources available or required as well as a timeline for which these tasks are to be completed.

    Main Objectives:
  • To involve all partner agencies and the public through active participation

  • Integrate disciplines, policies, mandates and requirements of all agencies and interests

  • Identify the location, area, extent, present status, significance, function and sensitivity of the existing natural environment within the sub-watershed

  • Identify sources of surface water contaminants from agricultural, urban, rural and natural areas and areas where there is potential for rehabilitation

  • Evaluate potential impacts on water quality and on the natural environment associated with future development in the sub-watershed

  • Identify remediation to rehabilitate Musselman’s Lake and develop an implementation strategy (Stewardship Plan) to identify roles and responsibilities and a schedule for completion

  • Develop strategy to minimize/eliminate any potential impacts
  • Provide direction for the protection and rehabilitation of natural heritage features
