Fertile soils, abundance of fresh water, and close proximity to markets and transportation routes make farming in the Whitchurch-Stouffville region big business. 8,258 hectares of the Town’s 21,200 hectares are held by 178 farms existing alongside industrial, residential, and commercial properties.

In the 1991 Agricultural census, farm businesses in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville held approximately 14% ($294,006,191) of total farm capital for York Region ($2, 053, 980, 635), and received approximately 15% of total gross farm receipts.

Throughout the GTA farming and agriculture related businesses generate approximately $1.3 billion in annual gross sales, providing 34,762 jobs (Walton & Hunter, 1999 in GTA Agricultural Action Plan)
