Regulations for Burning


1) No person shall set a fire or allow a fire to burn without obtaining a Fire Permit from the Fire Department. An annual administration fee of $25.00 plus GST shall apply.

2)

The Fire Chief has the right to prohibit burning in designated built-up populated areas of the municipality.

3)

The Fire Chief has the right to ban open air burning during high fire hazard times.

4)

No burning shall be permitted in new subdivision areas, or on any property, where building is taking place.

5)

The Fire Department will visit the intended site when application is being made for the annual permit.

6)

Fire shall not exceed approved size, as specified on Burning Permit.

7)

No more than one fire permitted on property at any given time.

8)

Fire shall be maintained at a distance of not less than ten (10) metres from any building, structure, hedge, fence, vehicular roadway, overhead wire or obstruction of any kind or nature whatsoever.

9)

All fires shall be extinguished before sunset.

10)

A sufficient number of persons shall be present to maintain control of the fire at all times. “Sufficient persons” shall mean at least one (1) adult, eighteen (18) years of age or older.

11)

All persons setting an open fire shall be responsible for:
 
a) any damage to property or injury to persons caused by said fire, and
b) costs incurred by the Fire Department for extinguishment of said fire.

12)

No fire shall occur when the wind is in such a direction or intensity so as to cause any or all of the following:
 
a) a decrease in visibility on any highway,
b) any odour to cause discomfort to persons residing in the area,
c) a rapid spread of fire through grass or brush area.

13)

No burning of industrial, agricultural or domestic waste is permitted. This includes automobile and truck bodies, tires, oil, grease, paint, cloth, rags, plastics, any type of building material, animal fecal deposits or manure, animal carcasses, kitchen waste, food scraps, cloth, rags, clothing, or any materials whose contents include any of the aforementioned.

14)
