What day and how often is the recycling picked up?
ANSWER: Refer to the Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedule in the Waste Management Section of the Town’s website for your area's collection day. Green bins and blue boxes are collected weekly; garbage is collected bi-weekly.
How do I get rid of old carpet, appliances, sofas, etc?
ANSWER: All the information can be found in the Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedule which is distributed to each household. Copies can also be picked up at the Town Offices or in the Waste Management section of the Town’s website.
Residents are required to phone Turtle Island Recycling at 1-866-421-5625 to make arrangements for their appliances and/or large metal items to be picked up.
Where do I dispose of old paint, batteries, etc?
ANSWER: There are three permanent Household Hazardous Waste Depots - one in Markham, one in Georgina and one in East Gwillimbury. More information can be found in the on Page 3 of the Recycling & Waste Collection Schedule. Empty metal paint containers with the lids removed may be placed in the blue box, provided the paint has been allowed to dry. Plastic paint containers (where paint has been allowed to dry) can be placed in the garbage.
Where is the dump in the Municipality?
ANSWER: There is no dump in Whitchurch-Stouffville. For more information regarding the disposal of household garbage, large articles or home improvement material, contact the Regional Municipality of York at 905-764-6345 extensions 5712, 5719 or 5721, or the Public Works Department.
How do I get rid of yard waste?
ANSWER: There is yard waste collection days scheduled bi-weekly from April to November each year. Please note that yard waste is only collected in Kraft paper yard waste bags or a reusable open-top container. Branches should be bundled and no longer than four feet long. ANSWER: Residents may deliver yard waste to:
The Bloomington Composting Facility, 1351 Bloomington Road (just west of Leslie Street) in Richmond Hill, April 1st – November 30th, Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday 7:00 am – 5:00 pm (excluding Statutory Holidays). A charge of $65/tonne for loads over 1 cubic yard will be applied.

Yard waste can be taken free of charge by residents to the Georgina Transfer Station, 23068 Warden Avenue (1 km north of Ravenshoe Road (Regional Road 32) on the west side) in Georgina, Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
