FULL DAY PROGRAMS--- include your choice of one TOUR and one ACTIVITY. (See below.)

HALF DAY PROGRAMS --- consist of a tour with your choice of a the hands-on interaction component of that tour (i.e. schoolroom experience or cooking in the farmhouse) OR a craft activity.

TRIPLE PLAY (2 or 3 classes, up to 96 students) --- this program combines the 19th Century Schoolroom Activity with a Half Day Program. Full Day Program fees apply.

EARLY SETTLER LIFE
General tour focussing on the development of the family farm of the 1800s

  • Visit our log cabin
  • Learn how a barn is built
  • Bake in the Victorian farmhouse kitchen (single class bookings only)

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Sample a rural 19th century child's life

  • Visit the log cabin and Victorian farmhouse
  • Explore children's responsibilities
  • Discuss and experience classroom routines in our restored one-room schoolhouse.

LIGHTING THE LANDSCAPE
Special focus tour (better for upper grades or at the end of your Pioneer unit)

  • Discuss the preparation and use of candles in the log cabin
  • Trace the development of lighting through the various types of oil lamps as used in the Victorian farmhouse
  • Bake in the Victorian farmhouse kitchen (single class bookings only)

Activities


PAPER PLEASURES
Discuss popular Victorian paper crafts. Hands-on portion may include paper piercing, quillwork, paper butterflies, or scherenschnitte (German paper cutting)

A STITCH IN TIME
Discuss the importance of quilt making. Make your own quilt square
(Best for Grades 5 and up).

SPINNING AND WEAVING Discuss pioneer clothes production. Learn to card and spin wool. Weave a small mat on a cardboard loom to take home.

19th CENTURY SCHOOLROOM
Learn about what classes were like a in a one-room schoolhouse. Practice penmanship and oral reading. * To avoid repetition, this should not be combined with A DAY IN THE LIFE.


Seasonal Programs
A NINETEENTH CENTURY CHRISTMAS
Runs NOVEMBER 16 to DECEMBER 20

  • Compare the traditions of 19th century Christmases for early settlers and Victorians
  • Prepare holiday treats in the Victorian farmhouse kitchen (single class bookings only)
  • Create special Christmas crafts to take home in the farmhouse kitchen

This program is extremely popular, so book early to avoid disappointment!!

WINTER PROGRAM
Runs JANUARY to APRIL only

  • Visit our log cabin and Victorian farmhouse
  • Discuss winter responsibilities, dangers, and social activities
  • Prepare seasonal foods like homemade soup

FULL DAY PROGRAMS
--- General $8.00 per student (minimum charge $160.00) (max. 32 students)

HALF DAY PROGRAMS
--- General $5.00 per student (minimum charge $100.00) (one class only)

TRIPLE PLAY (2 or 3 classes, up to 96 students)
--- Priced at Full Day Program rates (minimum charge $320.00)

***Teachers and one adult supervisor per class are admitted free for all program options. Other accompanying adults must pay admission rate plus GST***

The adjacent Vandorf Park provides excellent picnic and playground facilities for classes spending the day at the Museum. (Indoor eating facilities are also available.)

Gift Shop: The Gift Shop is available at lunch hour and at the end of your tour -- at the teacher's discretion.
